Intercultural Fairy Tales Festival

Idea/Aims

Fairy-tale themes familiar across Europe were combined with each other in this project in such a way as to give rise to a range of trilingual fairy-tale plays, which when performed in a variety of ways enabled participants to learn about specific aspects of English, German and Czech interactively, by stimulating the various senses.

Aims

The intercultural fairy-tale festival’s aim was to stimulate an interest in learning German, Czech and English, as well as their associated cultures (customs and traditions). A special puppet helped visitors to master the languages’ phonetic idiosyncrasies.
Further aims comprised promoting group-based learning, developing an appreciation for people’s differences, and developing openness, tolerance and empathy towards people from other countries and cultures.

Concept

The basic idea behind the fairy-tale festival was to teach foreign languages using a theme which transcends supranational borders, namely the fairy tale. This encouraged children to learn the foreign languages through play.
The fairy-tale festival permitted an experience of foreign languages and cultures in a stress-free environment, making the encounter with them totally unforced.
