Intercultural Fairy Tales Festival

Peißnitzhaus (registered society), Halle (Saale), Germany

Peißnitzhaus (registered society) is a non-profit-making organisation, whose goal is to save the former cultural building on the island of the river Saale in Halle, and to put this to long-term use.

The organisation uses the building and its beautiful parkland for a play and fairy-tale world, an educational nature walk, a herb garden, various exhibitions, and much more. Several projects have been running since 2005, financed by a wide range of donor organisations. One of these projects is particularly concerned with the topic of intercultural communication, another with the topic of fairy tales, giving us access to the following specialists: a foreign language teacher, a speech therapist, a phonetician and a social education worker.

The projects involved educating people about European languages, customs, traditions and seasonal festivals. Children and young people are particularly open to discovering new things. During the events, they were presented with an opportunity to encounter other lifestyles and to get to know them through play. By trying these things out for themselves, they can experience the beauty, difference and uniqueness of other cultures, encouraging them to be aware of, and pay attention to, these issues in everyday life.
